God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble his way. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom. A man’s pride will bring him low, But a humble spirit will obtain honor. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you at the proper time. He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted those who were humble.
Obviously, humility is very valuable.
But seeking after humility for its own sake is ironically prideful. It is a winding path that is brimming with self.
“I’m becoming humble,” we think.
Well, that just ruined it. Which is humbling.
Oh, good. We’re really being humbled now.
Repeat.
Sound familiar?
I want to exchange consciousness of myself for consciousness of God and what he is doing–even what he is doing through me. That is a truly humble path that is full of joy.
